Why Manchester diesels block

The M60, The Mancunian Way and Stop-Start Roads Into Manchester

A DPF only burns off its soot when the exhaust stays hot for a good stretch. The M60 ought to give a Manchester diesel that chance: it is a 36-mile ring round the city. In practice part of the north side, near Simister Island where the M62 and the M66 join, was once the busiest stretch of motorway in the country, and many drivers only use the ring for a junction or two.

Inside the ring it gets harder. Runs into town on the A6, the A34, the A62 or Princess Road stop and start at lights the whole way, and the Mancunian Way, the elevated A57(M) along the south of the city centre, is two miles long: too short to heat a filter even when it is moving. A few weeks of that and each regeneration is cut short before it finishes.

We clean the filter where the vehicle is parked, and the diagnostics show whether a failed pressure or temperature sensor is making it block, so it does not come straight back. The full method is on our mobile DPF cleaning page.

Vans and work sites

Trafford Park, Salford Quays and Manchester Vans

Trafford Park sits across the Manchester Ship Canal from Salford Quays, off junctions 9 and 10 of the M60. It was the first planned industrial estate in the world and is still one of the biggest in Europe, which means a lot of vans, pickups and company cars parked up for a shift.

A van on multi-drop runs round the city, idling at every stop, loads its filter faster than a car on a motorway commute. If it sits in a yard for the day, we can often clean it there, with the site's permission.

The scan matters most on vans. On the Mercedes Sprinter shown here, a St Helens job, two of the three exhaust temperature sensors had failed: the clean got the van out of limp mode, and the new sensors the next day fixed the cause.

What we found: Two of the three exhaust temperature sensors were not working, so the DPF could not regenerate. The soot load had reached 120% and put the van in limp mode.

What we did: A high-pressure foam clean of the filter on site. The owner booked the sensor replacement for the next day, which fixed the cause.

On the day we need the vehicle and a little space round it: a drive in Sale, a side street in Levenshulme, or a work car park near the airport, out past the ring on the M56 and Princess Parkway. We scan it, read the soot load and the sensors, clean the filter, then recheck the readings and tell you what caused it.

Questions

DPF Cleaning In Manchester: Questions

Anything else? Call 0330 043 8834 or send a WhatsApp with your registration.

How Much Is DPF Cleaning In Manchester?

From £225, with the diagnostics before the clean and the recheck after it included. You get the exact price for your vehicle and your Manchester postcode on the phone, before anything is booked, so you can compare it like for like with any other quote.

Do You Cover All Of Greater Manchester?

Yes. We cover all ten boroughs: Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton and Wigan, including towns such as Sale, Altrincham, Eccles, Urmston and Leigh. Send your postcode and we will give you the soonest slot.

When Can You Come To Manchester?

Same-day bookings are available, subject to availability, so ring 0330 043 8834 as early as you can with your postcode. We work Monday to Friday 07:00 to 21:00, Saturday 07:00 to 18:00 and Sunday 07:00 to 14:00, so an evening or weekend clean is often possible.

Can You Clean My DPF At Work In Trafford Park Or Salford Quays?

Usually, yes, if the site lets us work on the vehicle and there is room around it. A clean takes about 45 to 60 minutes, so it fits inside a shift. Check with your employer or the site manager first, and tell us the unit or car park when you book.

Can You Clean A Van Or Commercial DPF In Manchester?

Yes. Vans and pickups on multi-drop work round Manchester block their filters faster than most cars, and we clean them in the yard, the depot car park or outside the job. Diagnostics come first, so a failed sensor is found before you pay for a clean.

Is A Regeneration Enough, Or Does My Manchester Diesel Need A Clean?

The readings decide. A forced regeneration burns soot off with the car's own system and can do the job when the filter is only lightly loaded and the sensors work. A clean shifts the build-up a regeneration cannot. Our diagnostics show which your vehicle needs before any money is spent.

Do You Do AdBlue Deletes In Manchester?

Yes, from £285, by remap at your location, for off-road, competition, agricultural and export vehicles. The delete is a software change: we do not diagnose or fix AdBlue systems. The details and the legal side are on our AdBlue delete page.

Do You Remap Cars In Manchester As Well?

Yes. A custom Stage 1 remap starts from £200 and is written for your engine within safe limits, using licensed tuning software. It can be done on the same visit as a DPF clean, and back to stock is available later if you need it.
